Around the world, there is a growing movement to involve men and boys in gender equality efforts. Yet how to approach this work remains a topic of debate.Filmed over the course of a seven-day backpacking trip in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, this documentary follows a group of masculine-identifying youth as they set out to learn something about themselves and the meaning of “positive masculinity”. Their experiences are interwoven with key insights from educators, academics, and activists who share diverse perspectives on working with men and boys to prevent gender-based violence. As gender becomes an increasingly polarising subject in contemporary global politics, this timely and thought-provoking documentary seeks to open space for a critical re-imagining of masculinities. It encourages conversations about how we can approach gender-transformative work with men and boys for the improvement of our collective gendered lives.
